Mad Men Everything Old is New Again

I watched the Mad Men Season 4 premiere episode last night, courtesy of iTunes. I won’t offer spoilers but the premiere centers on the new ad agency that was formed at the end of last season and Don’s hesitant realization he can’t hide forever and if he’s going to make it in the industry, he’s going to have to at least make up a story about his checkered past the press will buy.
As always, Roger has the best lines and I’m really starting to dislike Betty, ’60’s child raising values aside, she really isn’t a very nice mum.
Why am I telling you all this? Well I realized that all the talk in our business about ‘owned’ media, in other words, brand content actually started in the ’60’s. Don’s creative skills are being praised up and down Madison Avenue for a Glow-Coat (floor polish) TVC he created where the first 30 seconds are pure brand content and then surprise it’s an ad!
Enjoy the new season and let me know what you think of the Glow-Coat commercial (and Betty’s parenting skills).

OMG - Don rocks! Love how he switches ‘on’ in the last 10 min - the turning point is with the kids. Love love love it. Love his relationship with Peggy - so raw. Love their office, minus the boardroom table - so represents where their agency is at. Love it when Don kicks the Janzens Client out - a creatives dream come true - takes balls! x
